Unlock your imagination by experimenting with the magical Monotype painting and printing art technique, a hybrid of drawing and printmaking. By the end of the class, you'll be able to create unique artwork in minutes using gouache or digital painting in Procreate!
Both advanced and beginner creative can find valuable insights in this class. You don't need special drawing skills, previous experience, or a printing press.

Sometimes we don't know what to draw or don't have time, or we have too many ideas…and do nothing. That's when Monotype is a go-to technique!
We'll work with gouache, but any paint or ink will work. You don't have art supplies at hand? No worries! In the 2nd part of the class, I'll show you how to use Procreate App to work in this technique on iPad. You can use any other software that has a Liquify filter.
Class Structure
This 1.5-hour class is divided into 7 chapters and includes 18 bite-sized videos that guide you step by step through the modern monotype process. We'll use gouache and Procreate to create unique prints in minutes.
Getting Started. We'll begin our journey with inspiration and Materials. I'll talk about materials and paper (super important for this particular technique)
Traditional Monotype Basics. We'll use the essential monotype technique and just one color to create beautiful monochrome demo right away.
Monotype Magic: Landscapes, Coral & Fish. Together we'll work on variety of monotypes.
Modern Monotype: Ballerina. A dreamy demo inspired by fashion illustration with expressive fine art feel.
Digital Painting in Procreate. We'll learn how to use digital techniques and tools to create beautiful monotypes.
Final Thoughts & Your Assignment. We'll talk about your project and how to approach this art technique for your future artworks.

Do I need Procreate to take this class?
Not necessarily. Procreate is demonstrated as one of the tools, but the class focuses on narrative illustration principles that apply equally to traditional and digital media. You can use any software or traditional tools. The digital illustration is painted in the second part of the class only.
Is this class suitable for beginners?
Yes. The class is accessible to beginners, while also offering depth and inspiration for experienced illustrators. If you’re a beginner, you’ll get an overview of what is possible, and if you’re an experienced artist, you’ll gain inspiration for your own creative practice.
Is the class more traditional or digital?
Both. I believe we should embrace the challenges of traditional art to grow as artists, and expand our creativity with modern tools. These two approaches can fuel each other. You’ll see inspiration from traditional techniques alongside digital approaches.
Is this a step-by-step tutorial?
All my classes include step-by-step demonstrations. However, they are not about copying a single image, but about learning how to think creatively and develop your own visual language. My hope is that you’ll gain valuable insight to bring into your own unique creative practice.
